We have recently finished installing and commissioning a large project on a military base in Cornwall.

An old Sonning system was removed by the principal contractor including the old burners from the plant rooms.

The replacement system chosen was a Space-Ray GIRAD system, which complemented the requirements of the Military and the consultant, AECOM.

The GIRAD system was installed at high level within the hangars at approx. 8m from finished floor level.

The modulating 300 kW burners were positioned at ground level and inside the existing plant rooms to help aid the yearly maintenance. The GIRAD insulated radiant tubes then go out through the plant room wall and into the hanger, the system then rises up to high-level to connect to the closed cirtuit system out in the hanger area giving optimal heat coverage for the space.

This ‘C’ type hanger, would normally use a conventional continuous system, which would use 24 x gas fired burners and 4 x vacuum fans, with electrical and gas supplies and fresh air ducting system supplying fresh air to the burners. However the GIRAD system would only have 2 burners and only has two points of gas per hanger and no fresh air ducting.
